IML or logo printing: which suits your reusable cups?

Three reusable cups with simple and full-wrap print designs

IML can provide full-colour artwork across a large cup surface; simple logo printing may suit a smaller motif. The choice depends on the model, design, quantity and desired result. The printable area and suitable process are confirmed before production.

What does IML mean?

IML stands for in-mould labelling: a printed label is integrated with the product during moulding. This allows a large design area and multicolour visuals. The actual printable surface still depends on the cup's shape and production template.

On Recups Clip IML, the clip area remains unprinted. Full-wrap artwork therefore does not mean that every detail of the product can receive print. Use the template for the selected size when preparing final artwork.

For photography and extensive colour artwork, explore our IML cups and the Recups Clip IML model. For a smaller logo placement, include Recups Event 300 in your comparison. Its exact printing method and printable area are confirmed before ordering; a method available on one model is not automatically available on another.

When is a smaller logo enough?

If the artwork consists of one mark or a small number of colours, compare the standard logo-printing methods offered for that model. A one- or two-colour design can be very clear when the logo's details and line thickness suit the process.

Do not evaluate a photograph, gradient or very fine text solely by counting colours. The same file may produce different results on different materials and printing processes. A small logo also needs enough space around it to remain readable.

Which file should accompany the enquiry?

Include a vector logo in PDF or SVG format if available. If you only have a PNG or JPG, send it and state the intended print size so its suitability can be assessed. For full-colour artwork, include backgrounds, photographs and a placement reference.

A screenshot of a website is not necessarily a usable production file. Do not distort the logo's proportions to make it fit the cup. Artwork preparation and any required adjustments should be agreed before production.

How is the artwork approved?

The model, capacity, print area, artwork version and quantity must be clear before production starts. A placement preview helps check the position of the logo, but a screen colour does not establish the appearance on the actual material.

If a specific brand colour matters, mention it and ask how colour can be confirmed for the selected model. When sending an updated file, explicitly state which earlier version it replaces. Keep the final approved version identifiable.

Can one design be used on different capacities?

The visual concept can be shared, but each capacity needs artwork that follows its own production template. Do not automatically stretch the design for a smaller cup to fit a larger one.

Clip IML's starting quantity applies separately to each capacity and design. Request comparable quotations for the required variants and check whether preparation, samples and transport are included. Confirm the print specification rather than treating a generic mock-up as a production drawing.

IML supports photographs, illustrations and full-colour artwork over a large area. Recups Clip IML combines this with an integrated side clip. Choose 250, 300, 400 or 500 ml, from 1,000 cups per size and design. The clip remains unprinted and artwork must follow the template for the selected size. An all-round visual effect does not mean every surface can be printed.

Ask for the model, printing method, colour specification, number of designs and quantity per design to be stated. Clarify preparation charges and any included artwork adjustments. Compare alternatives using the same delivery destination and quantity. A lower unit figure is not a fair comparison if printing or transport is missing from one option.
